Cara
Hennessy
Cara began her career at KPMG in Dublin within the business advisory practice, before transitioning to a 17-year tenure in Cayman’s financial services industry. Starting as a fund accountant and transitioning into RTA at Close Brothers (now Intertrust), she developed a deep understanding of the Investment Funds sector. She later joined DMS Governance, where she spent a decade advancing through various roles, including Finance Manager, Senior Financial Analyst, Head of Internal Audit, and Director of Compliance. During her time there, she worked across a range of sectors including funds fiduciary, corporate services, banking, insurance, and pensions. She also managed the internal audit process for DMS’s European arm, focusing on AIFM and Manco licensees.
Cara’s commitment to regulatory excellence extended to volunteering with the Cayman Islands Government stakeholders forum, established to support AML-focused FATF remediation initiatives. Cara spent a year as Director of Compliance at Conyers Law firm and Conyers Corporate and Trust Company. Prior to launching Provenance, she held the position of Director of Compliance for a fintech-focused fund administration and corporate services start up, emerging as a leader in digital assets and crypto-fund services in the Cayman Islands. Cara has intersected with digital asset focused launches since the inception of the virtual assets regime in the Cayman Islands and has been involved in license applications, gap assessments, drafting of standard operating procedures and subsequent regulatory audits of VASPs.
Her qualifications reflect her passion for staying ahead in compliance: she holds an ACAMS certification specializing in virtual currency and blockchain and is a CIMA-approved Director AMLCO and MLRO. She spent three years serving on the Board of Directors/Trustees of Silverthatch Pensions Board in the Cayman Islands.
Known for her expertise in automated KYC/AML methodologies and her forward-thinking views on the future of AML/CFT compliance, Cara is particularly adept at remediation, audit, and investigations.
Outside of work, Cara’s adventurous spirit shines through. At 16, she represented the European Ecological Federation on a solar research mission to Vietnam, and she also boasts six international rugby caps for the Cayman Islands. Though her hobbies have mellowed with time, her love for adventure remains undiminished. Cara swears by starting each day with a swim in the Atlantic Ocean come sun or snow.
